FIFTEEN DAYS RWANDA EDUCATIONAL SAFARI

Day 1: KIGALI
History-minded exploration of Kigali with visits to landmarks from colonial, post-independence, genocide and post-genocide times.

Day 2: MODEL VILLAGE
Rwanda’s development challenges – visit to Mayange, the Rwandan model village and Reconciliation village.

Day 3: SORGUM BEER MAKING AND BANANA LEAF ART
Transfer to Musanze at the foot of Volcanoes National Park – visit to a local association that teaches how to make sorghum beer and another one that teaches banana leaf art.

Day 4: GORILLA TREKKING
Mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park.

Day 5: CANOEING AND FISHING
Life around the twin lakes Burera and Ruhondo – hiking and canoeing – visit to an island community – traditional fishing methods.

Day 6:BANANA BEER MAKING
Visit to a local association that teaches how to brew banana beer – transfer to Gisenyi at the northern shore of Lake Kivu.

Day 7: RELAX ON THE SHORES OR VISIT OF GOMA
Relax at the beach – optional visit to Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo (if the security situation is appropriate).

Day 8: VISIT COFFEE ISLANDS
Boat trip to the Coffee Islands in Lake Kivu – guided tour around a major coffee plantation – transfer to Kibuye.

Day 9: NYUNGWE NATIONAL PARK
Transfer to Nyungwe National Park – on the way, visit to a major tea plantation.

Day 10: CHIMPANZEE TREKKING
Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe National Park

Day 11: BUTARE AND NYANZA
History-minded exploration of Butare and Nyanza – visit to the National Museum, introduction to Rwanda’s kingdoms, discovery of colonial architecture.

Day 12: REHABILITATION PROGRAMS
Challenges of orphans and street children – visit to Ndera and the rehabilitation of former prostitutes at Sisiters of Rwanda in Remera.

Day 13: AKAREGA NATIONAL PARK
Game drive in Akagera National Park and an afternoon boat ride to see crocodiles and hippos and over 50 species of water birds.

Day 14: RETURN TO KIGALI
Early Game Drive to view of the best sceneries in an African Savannah, over 20 different species of animals; explore pastoralist heritage and return to Kigali – Overnight at the recommended hotel.

Day 15: VISIT CRAFT MARKET AND DEPART
Visit the crafts market and Farewell at the airport to take International departure flight.
